lyrics
Fière, s'élevait la montagne
Par tous admirée.
Surplombant la vallée
Qu'elle allait bientôt tuer.
Un vieil homme inconnu
Que le village prit pour un mendiant,
Se vit refuser l'entrée
Alors qu'il était affamé.
Sorcier il était,
Et les peuples des forêts savoyardes
L'aidèrent à punir les habitants
De leur manque d'empathie.
Cette nuit là
Le village trembla,
Et tous craignirent
la fin du monde.
La montagne
Qu'ils aimaient tant
Dans une dernière étreinte
Les engloutit.
Le lendemain
Le village n'était plus.
À sa place
Une immense étendue d'eau,
Qu'on appellera lac
Sans que personne ne songe
Que le village demeure sous les eaux.
Le peuple de la forêt et le vieillard
Enterrèrent avec eux le secret.
Alors qu'ils allaient vivre
Cachés sous la roche
Dans les grottes du mont Granier.
Il est dit qu'en plongeant dans le lac,
On peut encore voir les habitants
Maudits par le sorcier
Ils vivent encore
Sous les eaux sombres.

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!! sachavonkarl74

I was always intrigued by this group's choice of album covers, it isn't every day that you see high quality space photos in this genre despite the rise of "cosmic" black metal. But the music blew me away, this sounds like Austere took the atmospheric spacey route. (I will assume it's a coincidence that both bands are Australian) porcelainheart-

Gaerea's first release of "Unsettling Whispers" was in 2018, and since, they dared define a "black metal" niche of their own, they dared to walk a new path and stir shit up a bit in the realm of BM, this album is a masterpiece and a milestone proving that it can be done, provided the band can pull it off, and they did, oh they did! Gloomy, dark, post-BM sludgy whatever, it's Gaerea, and this one belongs in my BC collection, the end. sachavonkarl74
Joseph Hawker subverts the musical and sociopolitical status quo with a black metal triptych that's as incendiary as it is impressionistic. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 5, 2022
